UltiSat Staff Members Receive Department of Defense Patriot Award

Last year, one of our staff members was sent to Kuwait for his first deployment. Nick Hockensmith is a SPC (Specialist) Satellite Communications Systems Operator/Maintainer in the Maryland Army National Guard. His role at UltiSat is as an Integration and Testing Technician.  Nick had only been at UltiSat a few short months before he received his orders to deploy. He was told not to worry and that his job would be waiting for him upon his return. So, off he went to serve our country and when he returned Nick wanted to show his appreciation for what had been done for him.

Nick nominated our CEO, Moe Abutaleb, our Vice President of Programs, David Bryant, and our Director of Logistics, Will Gregory, for the Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR®) Patriot Award.

“I nominated them because they supported me before my deployment with their understanding of my military obligations and duties and continued doing so while I was away and after I returned home,” Nick said.

An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve may nominate individual supervisors and bosses for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his/her family. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

“They understand what it takes to succeed and continue to help me progress as a professional in a direction that will advance both my civilian and military careers in satellite communications,” Nick said. “I just wanted to recognize them for their support and the opportunities I’ve been given because of them.”

Moe, David and Will offered a collective statement: “We are extremely proud of Nick for his service to our country and to his commitment to our business. Supporting him during his deployment is the least we could do to demonstrate our recognition of his dedication to the National Guard.  We sincerely appreciate him nominating us for this prestigious award.”
